Description

Sankofa is a word from the language of the Akan people of Ghana that literally means “return and fetch it.” When used in the context of history, it means that if we know and understand our past, knowledge will strengthen us and guide us on the right path as we move toward the future.

UMI Teacher Manuals convey a sense of the true scope of Black History, creating an awareness that biblical history is a part of Black History. This set encourages discussions of African/Christian values that have contributed to our survival as a people and demonstrates ways to teach these values to our children. Recommended additional materials: Black History in Perspective Timeline Poster; Biblical Posters: Miriam, Ruth, Caleb, Joseph; Adinkra Symbols; Student Workbooks.
