A Strong Foundation

For over 40 years, UMI has been a leading provider of biblical resources to African American churches. UMI has grown to be the largest independent African American-owned and operated religious publisher, and has long-standing relationships with historically African American denominations.

UMI’s programs, lessons, and teaching materials are:

  • Biblically sound. All UMI Sunday School lessons are based on the International Uniform Lesson Series, developed by Bible scholars and ministers from a diverse group of denominations to ensure faithful, consistent study of God’s Word.
  • Christ-centered. UMI is committed to presenting the Gospel of salvation in Jesus Christ. (Read UMI’s statement of faith here.)
  • Educationally strong. All lesson plans are written by teachers and evaluated by education experts so anyone will be able to follow sound teaching methods.
  • Relevant. UMI materials are created with the spiritual needs and life challenges of African Americans and people of color in mind. Each course is designed for a specific age level from preschool to adult.
  • Contextualized. Ethnically inclusive illustrations and images help students connect and see themselves in the lessons.
  • Historical. Since its founding in 1970, UMI has fulfilled Dr. Melvin Banks’ vision of bringing the knowledge of God’s Word to African Americans and all people of color. (Read more about UMI’s history and vision here.)
All UMI’s materials are prepared with sound knowledge of God’s Word that translates directly to your life. With UMI, you have materials you can trust to bring you truth you can rely on.
