UMI and Hilton Publishing Join Forces to Bring Health Awareness to the African American Community

CHICAGO, IL (August 19, 2008) – UMI (Urban Ministries, Inc.) and Hilton Publishing have partnered to increase health awareness among minorities through the African American church. Working together, the two companies will create and distribute print, media, and interactive materials providing relevant health information for patients, medical organizations, and practitioners concerned with the health needs of minorities.

“This collaborative effort is part of a UMI corporate initiative to provide our customers with holistic resources, encompassing the mind, body, and soul. We want to ensure that our community has resources available to make informed decisions about their health,” says C. Jeffrey Wright, UMI President/CEO.

In addition to the Hilton published books and interactive DVDs to be distributed by UMI, the companies have cocreated The Daniel Chronicles, a customizable healthy kids comic book series, addressing issues of obesity, diabetes, asthma, heart disease, and cancer.

“Our team is passionate and dedicated about providing reliable and accessible health information to communities so desperately in need.  We recognize that many of these people turn to their faith-based institutions for guidance and direction, and we are thrilled to partner with the premier Christian media company to help extend our reach,” says Hilton Publishing CEO/President, Dr. Hilton M. Hudson II.  "We are looking forward to doing important and positive work together."

The companies seek to partner with other organizations interested in providing health resources and information to minorities through published material, community-based initiatives, and community events.

The health resources are available on UMI’s website at www.urbanministries.com/healthyliving.
