Lead Your Team to Victory With
“Chosen Champions for Jesus”! You are the coach. We have the game plan.
By Janet Grier
Being a champion takes character traits and skills that can lead to a victorious life. As we walk daily with Jesus, we strive to live abundantly, full of the wisdom and knowledge found only in God’s Word. Not settling for less than what the Lord has for each of us takes the kind of faith and perseverance that Jesus, the ultimate Champion, lived and taught in His ministry.
Why does being a champion matter? It’s more than the tangible rewards that the world can offer. Trophies, money, and even high-scoring performances don’t compare to the eternal rewards that await us. Being a champion is about adopting a lifestyle of habits and actions that begin with your thoughts. We’ve examined the thoughts and actions of many biblical characters and have captured some of them into lessons that can help you to build champions. Lessons on caretaking, work ethics, justice, witnessing, and salvation, just to name a few, create the foundation of biblical principles that can transform lives.
Here are seven steps that can help you to develop the true spirit of a champion like Jesus:
1. Have the courage to see the impossible: Increase your faith and let God show you the way.
2. Overcome and persevere through adversity: Pray, worship, and praise God for always being there for you. Ask Him to give you the knowledge and strength needed to push through your trials.
3. Learn from your mistakes: Recognize when correction is needed. Seek God’s methods of problem solving, and apply them to your life.
4. Never give up on your dreams: Psalm 37:4 (NIV) says, “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Always seek God and be faithful with what He has already blessed you with, as you get into position to receive your destiny.
5. Commit and Train: It takes work to reach a goal. Self-discipline, full engagement in what you are working toward, and obedience are the basis of your determination to achieve the results you desire.
6. Have a heart of compassion: As you develop into a champion, care about and share with others. You can’t become a champion all on your own.
7. Be a part of a team: Teamwork is crucial to each person’s development in many ways. It helps to build confidence, it builds bridges of reliance and trust, it reduces or eliminates self-centeredness, and it also forges independence. Each member of a team should have a position or task that is the sole responsibility of that person. This helps to make each individual partially responsible for the success of the team.
Vacation Bible School is one of the most popular outreach programs that a church can sponsor. As you bring new souls to Christ through VBS, remember that even though the goal is the same, the road map may change.
We pray that “Chosen Champions for Jesus” provides the way for you and your team to get to the winner’s podium. Keep your focus on the Lord, claim your victory, and live triumphantly right here, right now!
